The Executive Committee of the Association of African National Olympic Committees (ANOCA) confirmed the celebration of the next editions of the African Youth Games. Karate is one of the disciplines in the sports programme of the multi-sport event for underage African athletes.
After the meeting of the Executive Committee on September 29, it was decided that the 5th edition of the African Youth Games will be held in the city of Maseru in Lesotho in 2026. The event in Lesotho is thus postponed from 2022 to 2026 due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic in the country.
Additionally, ANOCA’s decision-making body under the leadership of president Mustapha Berraf resolved to award the 2022 African Youth Games to the city of Addis Ababa in Ethiopia.
The last edition of the African Youth Games was held in Algiers (Algeria) in 2018. Karate was one of the 30 disciplines in the sports programme.
