WKF ATTENDS FOR THE FIRST TIME THE IPC GENERAL ASSEMBLY

Since the WKF was recognised by the IPC beginning of July, the WKF has attended for the first time the 17th General Assembly of the IPC on 14th and 15th November in Mexico City. WKF representative Mr. Wolfgang Weigert, who is a WKF EC Member and Commissioner for Olympic and Paralympic Affairs, attended the session.

The sport disciplines for the 2020 Paralympic Games in Tokyo were already chosen 6 months before the WKF final recognition by the IPC. Therefore, Mr. Weigert has made the first approach for a succesful application for the 2024 Paralympic Programme. This will be a challenge for the WKF, since there are already eight different candidates in order to apply for the 2024 Programme.

Following the succesful Championships in Bremen 2014, as well as the recent proposal of by the Tokyo 2020 Organising Commission, the WKF has now good credits for the IPC. Another important milestone on our way to the 2024 Paralympic Games will be the 2016 World Senior Championships in Linz. High representatives of the IPC have already expressed their intention to attend the event.
